Opinion Paper: Artwork Analysis and Critique Paper
You are a freelance writer for Artforum Magazine. You have been asked to critique the tactical media artwork of your choice. Your review should follow this general format: a. introduce the artist and the work b. explain the nature of the work, particularly the ways in which it functions as tactical media c. critique the work d. summarize Requirements: 1. Limit yourself to discussing either a single piece of work, or at most three pieces by the same artist that are conceptually related to each other. 2. You may include some biographical information about the artist (or artist collective), but the article is NOT to be simply a biography of the artist, but rather a critique of the work. 3. Don't just discuss the formal qualities of the work, but analyze how it functions as tactical media, and critique its relationship to the world in which it is situated. 4. The critique should be as long as necessary to convey your understanding and opinion of the work. Five paragraphs won't be enough. Ten pages may be too long. 5. If applicable, include images of the work you are critiquing, and/or a URL where documentation of the work may be viewed. (The images don't count in terms of overall paper pages.) Grading criteria: 1. meets above requirements 2. concise, critical analysis. evidences an understanding of art, history, and tactical media. 3. well written, interesting to read. |
