micro-project: interactive object/sculpture/system
concept
Object as event, golem/homunculus, alchemy, stop-motion animation, non-human performance. Since installation art is closely related to sculpture, our first micro-project will be the creation of an interactive object. Check the "readings + examples" section under "interactive object/sculpture/system" for possible inspirations and precedences.
assignment
Create an interactive object/sculpture/system that modulates its output based on live input. The input must come from somewhere in the space where the object resides. The object may be found, found + altered, or entirely sculptural. Give your piece a title. Include any instructions (if necessary) in whatever form seems most appropriate to the piece. But you (as the artist) cannot explain to the audience how to interact with the piece. Imagine that you are not even in the room.
requirements
- Must use max/msp/jitter.
- Output may be screen-/projector-based and/or audio-based, but should be related to the object in some way (conceptually, visually, proximally, etc.)
- May use microphone or video input (need not be littleBits, makeyMakey, arduino, but can be).
- There must be some physical object component of the system.
- May not simply be a bare (unmodified) sensor (or unmodified keyboard, midi controller, phone, wii controller, etc.).
