NM 490 ROUGH PROJECT CALENDAR

The following course schedule will change. This should be interpreted as a general guideline only.

2. Daily Grade (portfolio/reel, daily assignments, creative briefs, grant proposals, mockups, prototypes) = 33%

Major Individual Project

ART SCENARIO:
[Weeks 1-5]
1. Conceive
* define interests / assess feasibility / select theme
* research (precedences in analog and digital art history)
* analysis (simultaneously consider concept, form, technology, and content)
* general written approach of logistics, concept, goals, and cultural relevance (a grant proposal)

[Weeks 6-10]
2. Prototype
* explore, thumbnail sketches, loose storyboard, rough models
* content development/acquisition, aesthetic specificity
* loose prototypes in digital media
* polished prototypes in digital media, written justifications

[Weeks 11-14]
3. Execute & Implement
* filter, build 1 segment at full depth
* develop, build entire project at surface depth
* develop, increase entire project depth
* pre-release/screening/walk-through of actual media
* revise pre-release based on feedback
* public release of implemented project in actual media environment (exam day)

[Weeks 1-5]
1. Pre-Design
* define problem / assess scope / select project
* research (interview client/research competition/target demographic)
* analysis (problem crux/media limitations/prior design weaknesses/other successful design approaches)
* general written approach of strategy/tactics and possible pitfalls (a designer-generated creative brief)

[Weeks 6-10]
2. Design
* theme, explore, thumbnail sketches, loose storyboard
* concept, typography, imagery, composition, content development/acquisition
* loose mockups in digital media
* three polished mockups in digital media, written justification

[Weeks 11-14]
3. Develop & Implement
* filter, prototype 1 segment at full depth
* develop, prototype entire project at surface depth
* develop, increase entire project depth
* beta release of actual media
* revise beta release based on feedback
* public release of implemented project in actual media environment (exam day)



Portfolio (in conjunction with individual project)

[Week 1-5]
1. Pre-Design
* compile work
* research (strengths/goals/target demographic)
* analysis (problem crux/media limitations/other successful design approaches)
* general written approach of strategy/tactics and possible pitfalls (a designer-generated creative brief) and wireframe of site architecture for web site OR rough narrative structure of video reel

[Weeks 6-10]
2. Design
* theme, explore, thumbnail sketches
* concept, typography, imagery, composition/pacing, content development
* logo design (optional: business card layout)
* loose mockups in digital media
* polished mockup in digital media, written justification

[Weeks 11-14]
3. Develop & Implement
* prototype 1 section at full depth
* prototype entire project at surface depth (1 mockup per site level for site OR storyboard skethces for reel)
* increase entire project depth
* beta release of actual project
* revise beta release based on feedback
* public release of implemented portfolio (last day of class)
